SNORKEL

A snorkel is a tube that allows a person, vehicle, or vessel to draw air while submerged under water.

Modern snorkels have a sump in the mouthpiece to allow a small volume of water to remain in the snorkel without being inhaled when the diver breathes. Some have a one-way output valve in the sump, which automatically drains the sump as it fills with water. Many snorkels now come with Splash guards to help keep waves from entering the tube. Newer DRY snorkels have float-operated valves attached to the surface end of the tube to keep water out when the snorkeler submerges.

Snorkels are usually worn on the left side of the mask, with many manufactures curving the tube so it may only be worn on this side. Comfortable replaceable mouthpieces are a necessary. Select a silicone mouthpiece that fits you mouth.

Selecting a brightly colored snorkel is a bonus for safety!

What to look for?
Comfort and fit…
People have differently sized mouths and lungs. Your snorkel needs to be comfortable in your mouth and able to deliver the amount of air you require. Your mouth is a very sensitive part of the body and a silicone mouthpiece is the softest and most comfortable

Purge valve…
This is simply a one-way valve just below the mouthpiece which assists in clearing any water in the snorkel. Basically, it means you don't have to blow the water all the way out the top.
